I had a client ask me a question recently about Cell Phone Cloning. It appears that he has a neighbor who has a teenage daughter who is being stalked by someone older with nefarious intentions. It seems like this teenager’s phone has been cloned. The neighbor asked if a factory reset would clear the cloning software if it is, in fact installed on her phone. The answer to this is a little bit complicated. It should, in theory remove all software on the phone and take you back to the initial setup. It will do so. The potential danger lies in the fact that this is an iPhone (sorry folks, they are not exempt, and neither are Androids) and she very likely has iCloud Backup (Androids have an equivalent, in fact, there are many opportunities with android. If this device is connected to her iCloud account (and let’s be honest, there really is no way that it isn’t). The cloning software could be in her iCloud storage, and if it is a self-executing file (which it may be) her phone could be re-infected with the cloning software. So, in this case, I recommend a factory reset, and having a professional go over the software and files in her iCloud account before reconnecting her iPhone to her iCloud account. These are services that DJNM Technologies offers.
